We’re looking for a Policy Campaigns Manager!

Worth Rises seeks a dynamic Policy Campaigns Manager (exempt) based on the East Coast, preferably in New York City, to support the national policy work of the organization. This individual should have experience working in grassroots organizing and leading legislative campaigns. They should be a high-level thinker, strategist, and meticulous doer able to navigate a variety of environments with skill and integrity. The Policy Campaigns Manager will report to the Director of Policy Campaigns & Government Affairs and help execute and implement our campaign strategy.

Worth Rises is a non-profit advocacy organization dedicated to dismantling the prison industry and ending the exploitation of those it touches. Partnering with directly impacted people, we work to expose the commercialization of the criminal legal system and advocate and organize to protect the economic resources extracted from affected communities and strip the industry of its power. Through our work, we strive to pave a road toward a safe and just world free of police and prisons. 

Key Results (Year One)
  • Pass at least one Connecting Families (free telecommunication) bill.
  • Advance at least three Connecting Families bills out of their substantive committees.
  • Partner with the communications team to identify an author, draft, and publish at least five op-eds in support of our Connecting Families campaign.
  • Create an implementation tracker and guide that can be used to support states that pass Connecting Families bills.
Major Responsibilities
  • Assist the Chief Advocacy Officer and the Director of Policy Campaigns & Government Affairs in executing the organization’s policy campaign strategy.
  • Lead and support policy campaigns, building coalitions, facilitating stakeholder meetings, conducting research, monitoring legislative calendars, developing collateral (e.g., letters, petitions, fact sheets, talking points, etc.), advocating with decision makers, planning direct actions, coordinating events, supporting communications, and tracking progress.
  • Work closely with organizational partners and community members, implementing base building strategies when appropriate, to advance policy goals through robust and ethical coalition management, which includes elevating the leadership and voices of directly impacted people.
  • Track and support the implementation of previous policy wins, sharing best practices with correctional agencies, supporting procurement processes, and collecting data and analyzing results. 
  • Collaborate with the communications team on campaign-related activities to ensure timeliness, accuracy, and consistency of campaign messaging.
  • Manage policy interns, fellows, volunteers, and other staff as assigned.
  • Manage administrative needs and tasks for campaigns and related events.
Critical Factors for Success
A strong candidate would be a strategic-minded and motivated self-starter who consistently delivers high-quality work, is an excellent project manager, highly organized, is a proactive and innovative problem-solver, appreciates direct feedback, and has the following:
  • At least three years of experience leading legislative campaigns, including setting strategy, building and managing coalitions, drafting campaign materials, leading direct actions, and engaging digital advocacy tactics.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple campaigns and projects at once with efficiency, skill, and calm.
  • Demonstrated ability to build trusted working relationships with partners and community members, which includes exhibiting reliability, delegating effectively, and practicing empathy.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Regular and disciplined practice of active listening, seeking clarification, and note taking.
  • Direct impact by the prison industry or experience working with directly impacted communities.
  • Working understanding of the prison industry or strong interest in learning.
  • Willingness to travel as required.

Compensation and Benefits
The annual salary for the Policy Campaigns Manager is $92,000. Worth Rises offers a generous compensation package, including comprehensive medical, vision, and dental coverage, 20 days of vacation time, ten days of personal/sick leave, and three days of bereavement leave in addition to 11 holidays and winter break. Employees also receive a generous 401k contribution match, $75 monthly technology stipend, monthly wellness reimbursement, and dedicated budget for professional development.
